SJF Ten Mans are a success! Time for 2?
by ignite on Jan.03, 2012, under News
Thanks to the spam effort of Beerthirty, the teamspeak server has been overflowed with users forcing us to go from 15 slots to 25. How long until we need a 50? 100?
The 10 mans have been awesome and have been progressing in a way to churn out some top shelf skill for the time leagues pick up again. The |SM| Players have been awesome to have around and the ten mans wouldn’t be the same with out them.
On the Battlefield 3, due to the lack of interest by the initial majority of players we have decided to try out a partnership with the crew over at Medick’s Madhouse and convert our server to a 32slot RUSH server. The settings are up for debate so if you want your opinion heard, tell us in the forums.
In other news: Ignite still sucks at source.
Server Update r8
by ignite on Nov.22, 2011, under Battlefield, News, Servers
BF3 server version R8 (886605) has been released. This is a required server and client update and we have rolled it out to all servers now. Clients will be able to play on the new version as soon as they have updated and the current Blaze/Battlelog maintenance event is over.
R9 includes many changes. Server-wise, it is most notable for fixing many server crashes, adding an unranked option, locking some variables so that they cannot be changed after a server is started (vars.gamePassword and vars.ranked), and locking some variables on ranked servers (vars.roundStartPlayerCount [which must now be four or higher], vars.roundRestartPlayerCount [which must now be two or higher], vars.idleTimeout [locked to 300], vars.idleBanRounds [locked to 0], vars.playerManDownTime [locked to 100], vars.bulletDamage [locked to 100], vars.miniMapSpotting [locked to true], and vars.allUnlocksUnlocked [locked to false]).
Raising Player Base + Koala out of action
by ignite on Nov.18, 2011, under Battlefield, News, Servers
Hey SJF’ers,
There has been some discussion in the forums brought up by Shadowlerks about how we might be able to grow our server’s player base (regular players). This discussion has in a roundabout way brought up the topic of growing the community altogether. I would highly encourage anyone reading this to join the discussion or attempt any of the ideas that have been brought forward so far.
Koalabat’s PC Update:
-Koalabats PC went in for an open heart operation at approximately 8:00PM Thursday night. At precisely 8:23PM Koala noticed that his new motherboard included 0 IDE Ports. Realizing that he would need a disc drive to install drivers and the such he quickly identified that Frys closed at 9PM. With Gandalf’s inspirational “Fly you fools” stuck in his head, he wen’t as fast as a Koalabat could fly to the tech grocery store and returned by 8:54PM to continue the attempt to resurrect what was once a mighty PC powerhouse. Forward to 9:03PM after a quick snack break, the moment of truth to power up the slumbering beast had come. After pressing the secret location known as the power button…”F*****KINGASE$*E@SHIT@”
TL;DR: Koalabat is having major PC trouble and may be MIA. Hopefully someones around to play this weekend.
Procon Admin Tool + Stay Tuned for More awesomeness
by ignite on Nov.15, 2011, under Battlefield, Game News, News, Servers
After almost a month of using the default Admin Daemon provided by our host Nuclearfallout, I have decided that PROCON may be better suited for our needs. Procon is a tool that is hosted on a separate server from the Battlefield 3 servers, but allows admins to monitor the server and take action without having to be connected in-game.
I will be playing with the settings for Procon until I am able to add admins with acceptable permissions (meaning that I will not be giving a ‘self destruct’ button out to everyone…or anyone for that matter).
Procon also has the options for additional plugins to be used (although at the moment, most of them are not relevant/working for BF3). For those used to CS server admin; this will allow for slightly similar admin tools that you are used to (ie. voting for maps, vote kicks etc) and also add quite a few very new features: like the ability to designate “No camping zones” that if a player kills someone from a certain location, they will be slayed.
Now here will be a little test: If you would like to be set up with PROCON admin; send Ignite a PRIVATE message in the forums. Include your desired username/password. As always: I am busy with school/work so please be patient (although if you think I forgot, a friendly reminder may work).
Lets all try something new…
by ignite on Nov.03, 2011, under News, Servers
Hey All! We here at SJF have been using Ventrilo as our means of voice communication for the better part of a decade. Yet it finally donned on us, perhaps players these days have a new preferred method to chat. Well we’ve decided to try out something new with Team Speak 3. While it may not be as pure and simple as Ventrilo, there are many awesome features that TS3 has that Vent does not such as Iphone/Android use and in-game overlays. Also TS3 uses higher quality codecs and is also apparently lower latency with transmissions.
I ask all of our hard core vent diehards, to go into this with an open mindset. Yes it will take some getting used to, but it should be a useful tool for the community to grow and communicate (not everyone loves the forums as much as I do). So without further adieu: I give you the vent SJF TeamSpeak 3 Server. IP: sjspeak.ts.nfoservers.com (note: it is SJspeak not sjf)
The BF3 server has some updates as well:
- Added Metro to rotation
- Added Tehran to rotation
- Removed Killcam* Big Change! Let us know what you think
- Added RUSH game modes into the rotation
- Current Admins: Koalabat, Shadowlerks, Insidias (Need more)
Happy Halloween from SJF

I’m sure most of you got the partying out of your system over the weekend, so I hope that aside from trick-or-treat interruptions, most of us will be online tonight to have a great night of gaming in the Battlefield server.
As always: looking for more of you to join SJF!
A note on server crashes from NFo
by ignite on Oct.30, 2011, under Battlefield, Game News, Servers
BF3 has quite a few bugs in it right now that lead to server crashes. Most of these happen on map changes, but some also occur at seemingly random times during gameplay. We have forwarded DICE the logs and memory dumps for each type of crash that we’ve seen, and they tell us that they are working as fast as they can on improvements for the next server version, which we expect to see soon.
We see these crashes on servers across our network, and all other RSPs have confirmed that they see the same high incidence of crashes on their servers.
Some of our customers have been testing different server configurations and believe that crashes may be reduced by running at a reduced player count, only running rush maps, running maps for more rounds, or using a longer mapcycle, but we don’t have enough data yet to make concrete recommendations on how to avoid them.
-NuclearFallout
So there you have it. We’re kinda just sitting on a sail boat w/ no wind. Just gotta wait it out.
Server stability issues solved…possibly.
by ignite on Oct.29, 2011, under Battlefield, Game News, Servers
So for anyone who has spent any time in the BF3 server, then you would know that there have been a few crashes as the server changes maps with 64 players. After a bit of finneggling, we have achieved a bit stability (for one night at least).
So get in there guys! Please let us know if your in the server during a crash. Leave a comment with the time of crash and how name many people were in the server at the time.
The BF3 server is up. Ignite is DOWN

Well as luck would have it, the game that I have been looking forward to for the past million years (or so it seems) decided to be released while I am completely unable to play video games.
So there you have it, the BF3 server is up, you can join it @ fragfest.game.nfoservers.com:25200 (or search for 24/7 San Jose Fragfest).
Sorry to all those who were looking forward to an epic SJF game night…hopefully you guys can still get some time in.
Forgot to pre-order? Who cares, save 10$ through Amazon and Ignite MIGHT actually see 5% of that go to the servers! Thats like…almost 3 dollars guys. Do it.
